Realistically? Probably Lady Gaga.

Because Frank Miller's comic was only moderately popular and quick ly fading away. Zack Snyder repackaged then distributed it through a much more mainstream medium, arguably having a MUCH larger impact. Frank Miller can shout his far-right wing lunacy all he wants, but Snyder gave him a megaphone.

If I see one more person say "we're not racist because we elected a black guy president", I'm gonna fucking lose my mind.

If you can't see the direct line from Frank Miller's pro-fascist, far right wing glorification to the modern, pop-culture infused alt-right, then you're not paying attention. And that's kind of the problem.

That's a good point about Pattern Recognition, it would have its own challenges. I feel like a lot of its themes are more directly applicable to our current internet climate, though.

Maybe you just weren't paying attention?

I disagree. The specific details and references will seem dated if directly transferred, but the overall story is extremely relevant, arguably far more now when the book was published.

Neuromancer is such an incredibly complex and layered book, it's going to be a challenge to adapt for even the best filmmakers. I trust Miller can nail the tone and style, especially since plenty of other movies already exist that either directly influenced the novel (like Blade Runner) or were directly influenced BY

No, it just seems like that because everyone thinks that younger people are more childish and privileged. It's not an actual gradient, it's just people resenting other, younger people.

My phone will provide predictive text up to "Millennials are killing" and then it goes blank.

Good point. I meant more he had clearly been to a lot schooling and learned how to write something in an academic-sounding way, although it appears that was all he retained.

So this guy is probably going to get fired, right? I mean, not only is his little screed incredibly misogynistic AND racist, but he's caused a massive PR nightmare for Google, to the point where the company's new VP of Diversity, Integrity & Governance had to release a statement distancing the company from his absurd

I think he's just a sexist asshole. He's combining his misogyny with a high level of education to articulate it in fancy words and organization and make it sound more legitimate than it is.

(They’re both grieving the deaths of their dads, you see.)

I have to think this has less to do with a lack of confidence in Trevorow (although I certainly lack confidence in him) and more of to do with needing major rewrites to account for Carrie Fisher's death.

You can know a lot ABOUT horror films and still not grasp their full cultural context. That requires you to know also know a lot about things like history, sociology, psychology, etc.

Eli Rothe is going to talk about how horror approaches social issues, when that guy consistently complains about "SJWs" making it so you can't say or do anything anymore?

If meth-rotted teeth on the side of the highway is some shit to look at, then sure!

As a Kansan I may be biased, but the hardest Mormon belief for me to swallow is that fucking Missouri is the promised land.

To be fair, though, David Simon had a track record for that. He was a journalist for a long time covering those issues, writing multiple books and producing a similar television show in Homicide: Life on the Streets. And even Simon has some missteps that he can be slow to acknowledge, like when he got mad that people
