Hmmm. Arguably. I think it gets complicated because Wendy, for all her deviousness, had an honesty about her life that, say, Kristeva never did. But now I'm thinking about the black church coup scene.

Oh, man, you're so right. She's right up there with Wendy Scott-Carr, Glenn Childs, Nelson Dubeck — I forgot her nifty scenes. The door slamming on Eli's desk all the time is amazingly devious, and Eli's snooping on Ruth through a vent that doesn't make any sense is…baffling.

Oh, have they been scheming against each other? He swore a blood-oath against Peter while she arrived as Peter's greatest weapon, and since then… I dunno? Unhappy allies? Eli seems to've forgotten his plot. Meanwhile her worst threat was the Grace/Jackie team-up. Ugh.

My mother was worried about that during the last scene of the fifth season finale. I was offended that she even considered the idea at the time, but with the show so desperate for plot now….

I miss Patti Nyholm. I also miss competent Nancy Crozier and interesting Louis Canning.

Has a show ever wasted character actress Margo Martindale more? I mean, I now that sitcom she was on was pretty dire, but "The Good Wife" is normally so solid about its guest stars and she's usually the world's greatest guest star, but… Oof.

Cary, Carey, Carrie, and Keri would've been just… great. Adding the gender uncertainty? I know the show can go off the rails sometimes, but a solid zany episode of that would've been lovely.

I dunno. Has he appeared since season five? He probably ran off with Clarke Hayden and Robyn Burdine for a fantabulous menage a trois after he and Clarke disagreed on spying during the fifth season finale and the sparks flew.

Oooooo, you're right. She never overhears her specific voicemail, but she overhears his talking about it. I remember that now.

Upvote for knowing the Cary/Carey distinction

Did Alicia know? I've seen this show a few times over now, but I could be blanking. Pretty sure she never knew about the voicemail: life between her and Will just worked out anyway (until it didn't).

Given that season five (for all of its incredible merits) moved so quickly that Alicia and Cary never had time to become the "new Will and Diane" that we were promised before that all fell apart, meh.

Gosh, I have been the biggest fan of this show for years (since the pilot, really), but this episode was just downright insulting on almost every level of its incompetence — but particularly, to completely randomly bring back visions of the fifth season coup with these sniveling non-entity associates (like, they've

Oyelowo is 5'10"

Y'know, good for Beatrice Straight and all, but I've always thought the great performance in that movie with no screen time was Marlene Warfield as the Angela Davis stand-in.

I was excited for "Between the World and Me" based on its initial reviews, and I did appreciate a lot about it, but I've come to feel its plaudits are a bit overblown: it didn't have anything novel to say for anyone who's even passingly concerned with Afro-American literature or issues. It works well as a sort of

Not from what I gather from this review: the show-within-a-show is called "Las Leyes de Pasion" while Longoria's character in the "Telenovela" universe is Ana Sofia Calderon. She may be titular, but she's not eponymous.

That's not what "eponymous" means.

Yeah, "Mind's Eye" was the only episode of season six that I liked (and I liked it a LOT), but it seemed to get tepid reviews, so I'm thrilled it got some recognition.

"Lied in wait"? Eesh.
