I meant that mostly in jest. It’s just...such an odd headline to read, you know? I dunno. Don’t mind me.

OK, that’s it - this is the moment in which I’ve officially reached peak “fuck this shit o’clock” on superhero movie news.
Who’s worse, the person who posts the worst tweet ever, or the person who posts an entire article about the worst tweet ever?
You just described my personal vision of Hell.
Because everything doesn’t need to be serious all the time. A little silliness is OK. It’s not like we’re talking as if these movies have gone full Airplane!. They still have plenty of serious moments of pathos, deep emotion, and even tragedy - but, you know, throw in a couple of jokey-jokes, and the whole thing is…
I don’t like the thing, and therefore it is objectively a bad thing. I am actually unable to comprehend someone having different personal taste when it comes to the consumption of art and culture than I do, therefore their taste must be inherently bad, while mine is true and good.
“They are so dull, I don’t even understand why people like them.”
Being an asshole to people who like something you don’t is the most hipster thing of all!
“Treat the films more seriously.”
I loved Snoke’s death. One of my favorite things about the movie.
Wait, so we’re at the point at which a filmmaker is supposed to *ask fans for permission* to change things in an established franchise? That’s...that’s really gross. And, again, another thing that would make me, as a filmmaker, not want to work in that arena at all.
And god bless him for doing that.
Yes, this. Also, I don’t think there’s a .gif of it, but there was a pretty good video breakdown a while back that showed just how showy and pointless the lightsaber choreography in The Phantom Menace was - that none of Obi-Wan’s or Darth Maul’s strikes were actually capable of connecting with their intended target.
Why go for the obvious answer when the opportunity exists to waste hours of our precious and fleeting lives poring over minutiae and formulating uncorroborated headcanon we can then get angry about being wrong when the story goes in a different direction later on?
I actually stumbled on a video of a Diarrhea Planet performance, once, and their sound was not at all what I expected, and definitely in line with a type of music I really like. And yet...Diarrhea Planet.
Also, out of curiosity...what does “legitimate” criticism mean? What makes one set of criticisms legitimate, and another not? Or is it that it’s all just subjective opinion, and it only feels “legitimate” to the person leveling the criticism because it matches up with their perception of things?
I love the casino and Holdo plotlines AMA.
Cool story, bros: Matt Serra blew out the ACL in my left knee. Many moons ago, I attended a launch event for Pride Fighting Championship that consisted of bringing a bunch of journalists to the Gracie school in NYC to train for a day. At the end of the session, we had the chance to “spar” with Serra, which basically…
You’re absolutely right - I’ve watched Parks & Rec all the way through, twice, at this point, though. Still, Knope 2020.
The Great British Bake-Off was honestly the best therapy I could ask for while it lasted, but I’ve definitely felt a void in my life since I binged through what’s available on Netflix. Anyone have suggestions for where to go from there for someone who generally hates reality competition TV shows but loved this one for…
