I don’t know that I’d go so far as to call the Nazgul weak, especially given the examples cited: 1) Aragorn’s not just any guy. He’s arguably the greatest hero in Middle-earth at that particular moment in time, descended from a line of kings. And he totally gets the drop on them, too, jumping in when they’re focused

The world does need heroes...but not the kind of heroes to which we’ve become accustomed, lately. The world needs Atticus Finch, not another lone wolf asshole with a gun who takes matters into his own hands. The world needs portrayals of idealism, empathy, and especially compassion-not-as-weakness. Show me people

Grammar nerd question: As structured, doesn’t this sentence...

I was feeling that “breathe a little easier” thing until Justice Kennedy retired. We are in very real danger of being screwed for generations.

This is awful. This Supreme Court sucks.

Co-sign.

Same. I was a hardcore gamer for a long time, even working as a games journalist for a while, but Gamergate (I was out of the industry for years, at that point) actually drove me away from gaming as a pastime. It’s becoming the same now with movies and TV - I’m still into this stuff, but in no way do I want to spend

Threatening the relationship when someone tries to beg off sex for the night is abuse. It doesn’t matter whether the threat is capitulated to, or not.

I’ve been increasingly of this opinion, as well. And the fact that it’s become an industry makes it worse, because all of these businesses are incentivized to encourage an unhealthy level of obsession and lack of perspective.

Once, having recently seen Moulin Rouge, I got up on a ledge at the Guggenheim Museum and sang to a woman I was trying to woo, despite her having recently told me she wasn’t interested in me romantically, because I was convinced such a display would make her fall for me.

Nope, sorry. A thinly veiled, passive aggressive threat in response to “I don’t want to have sex tonight” is abuse, plain and simple. And that’s just one example of the behavior described that qualifies.

Come on, man. If it were this simple, no one would ever end up in, or stay in, an abusive relationship. To say these things only happen because a huge percentage of the female population is deluded is a) demonstrative of a drastic lack of empathy, and b) not supported by the vast majority of stories of abuse. Do

I remember where I was on the morning of September 11th: New York City. Watching the towers fall down with some of my friends in them, breathing fumes, and volunteering to set up a triage center for survivors that never came. And I say fuck Giuliani sideways.

I agree with that, personally. But, “Lose a lot of money for a long time on the chance that it *might* make you money in the future” is a tough sell in any boardroom, TV or otherwise.

I really hope someone does pick it up. I know it’s an expensive show to produce, though, so that might be a hurdle. All digits crossed.

I mean, I agree with you, but I get the decision Syfy’s end given the nature of their deal - they only make money on the linear broadcast of the show (i.e., people tuning in Wednesdays at 9). That’s a bad deal in today’s market. Of course, the bigger question is why anyone would sign that kind of deal, but I guess,

I can’t think of anything to say but to add my voice to the chorus of people saying this is just absolutely gutting news. Frightened Rabbit is/was a great band, and their music was part of a cocktail of things that got me through some tough times. It sucks, because singing about being a sad bastard, and the absurdity

Oh, good, my favorite grammatical issue is not just being thrown around willy-nilly in official press releases:

....so then why punch him???

...is not something that is in any way set up or posited by the movie. That he’s strong? Yes. That he could survive a point-blank shot from an energy weapon to his noggin? Not so much.
