So That Happened

I like Trevor Noah, but I’m annoyed at the “counsel not cancel” tweet and the general anti-“cancel culture” rhetoric. The man is posting slurs and abuse online, is obviously not well at the moment, and has a history of being pretty chaotic in general at live performances and specifically at awards shows.

It was bad, not because of any position in the debate about whether Venus and Serena could compete on the men’s tour. That debate is neither here nor there, really. It was bad because it was an utterly unnecessary insult and an attempt at self-aggrandizing at the expense of two women who are in absolutely no way

Oh, Mr. Fancy over here, doing a very basic level of reporting that the actual reporter couldn’t even bother to do.

None of this is at all surprising. They’re trying to build Gilead, complete with a “Lol, women are things.” mindset.

I fucking hate this goddamn country. I loathe the ineptitude and cowardice of the Democrats, but I guess I have to keep fucking voting for them. Fuck. Nothing matters. Nothing means anything. Why the fuck even bother?

“The contraceptive mentality is what fuels the bloodthirsty abortion industry in our country.”

If you haven’t seen Peacemaker, you’re missing out! I found it to be more enjoyable than Guardians of the Galaxy. One of the bad guys is a racist, busted-ass Iron Man supervillain named White Dragon. It’s a filthy show but it’s so good!

I live at the border. What I find so amazing is the number of 1st and 2nd generation of latinos in the RGV are against these people coming to the US. I laugh in their faces as a reminder that your parents and grandparents crossed the same fucking border for you to be born here.

You know, body positivity and acceptance would go a long way if women like Christie Brinkley and Paulina Porizkova would stop presenting themselves as something hideous and outside of beauty norms. Both of these women remain conventionally attractive so I’m not sure why I’m supposed to think they’re “courageous” for

I am more sympathetic, I guess. I think the article is about living with shame, disappointment, and fear of being judged for “letting yourself go.” Look at the recent coverage of Kelly McGillis. Well-known people are not allowed to fall into obscurity when there is news to be made for showing unflattering pictures.

We can’t blame a former supermodel, whose entire livelihood depended upon being hot, for wanting to fight off the curse of aging and hold onto what she’s got for dear life. Getting older as a celebrated beauty in full view of the world after being documented during the best years of your life has to be quite the

In spite of the lack of impact (I once saw it compared to a car running over a soda can) this can be extremely traumatic psychologically for engineers. Sometimes it’s career-ending.

He qualifies for a conservatorship, right? Because Britney did a hell of a lot less and she wasn’t threatening nor violent.

I hope Billie pays Kanye dust by not apologizing to him.

The problem is we have bad actors (i.e. republicans) who just hate transpeople, and so our reaction (‘our’ being people who don’t hate transpeople) is to uncritically come out against everything they say. And that means we don’t actually evaluate anything by any rubrik other than ‘are we being nice?’
