So glad you said this. Based on the show, I read an excerpt thinking the books would be great and...wow, no. Interesting that good storytelling and good writing don’t always go hand in hand.

The NY Times Magazine recently did an article on that place, and it was pretty chilling—definitely a hell on Earth. I’d rather die, to be honest.
Exactly. A side effect of really low interest rates is that it becomes harder to hit the itemizing limit, especially if you’re young and don’t have big money for charitable deductions or overwhelming health expenses. Unless you have a sizable mortgage, the tax math isn’t always in your favor.
My biggest issue with CDG is the consistently interminable wait for baggage. I have no idea what they’re doing in the bowels of that place, but it seems to involve a lot of sleeping and sitting around smoking Gauloises, is my guess. Four runs through the place, and the same experience every time.
It was, in the retelling, deeply satisfying here!
I’m going the self-taught route and just published my first to the App Store. I love the learning process, even if it’s often frustrating, but I can definitely see the benefit of working in a more structured environment where you get help on the fly. Half the effort of finding solutions to my roadblocks has been…
SO much rage—I was proud of her.
“Play the game.”
Oh, and guy in our design firm? Has never washed a dish here in 22 years.
Our business is split in two between a content/design company of women that is responsible for getting and managing all the contracts, and a fabrication company, which is exclusively male and gets paid by the content company. It’s complicated. There’s one man who interfaces between the two sides, but actually works…
My 15-year-old niece got a talking-to from her high school guidance counselor for the exact same thing. She’s “too confident in her answers,” and it upsets her male teachers. Because…they’re overly emotional, insecure crybabies, I guess?
A great summary of the history, thanks!
Helpful, thanks! It's always been annoying, but I never thought much about fixing it until now.
#Bajillion: You will have to kiss alcohol goodbye.
Dead on, which is exactly why they loot these places of anything portable first. They're not so offended that they aren't happy to touch those objects and sell them to the highest bidder; their fake outrage extends only so far as the stuff too huge to cart away, hence the big show. This is straight-up teenaged…

My mom had a completely unexpected aneurysm when she was 50. Prior to that, she and my dad had both been getting into shape, doing more together (because the kids were finally leaving), having fun. Then she had this event completely out of the blue and, although she largely recovered, she was never the same after…
Saw them everywhere in Paris, mostly in the hands of Asian tourists outside of monuments. It was interesting to see that not only had many museums there banned them, but they have also gone ahead and banned any photography at all. That was new since my last visit there in 2009.
Genius multiplied!
I was thinking Jon Hamm's younger brother/cousin.
