Crazy Quilt. Let’s see it!
Catman’s journey from an overweight joke of a villain to terrifying Ka-Zar type guy in “Secret Six” worked really well too!
Ahhhh you beat me to it.
The show that was spawned by this film was pretty good too. They built up a much more complex mythology than I thought they would and the cast was solid. It got kind of repetitive over the seasons though the performances and action made it worth watching. The actress they got as Santanico Pandemonium was a perfect…
She was great in “Frida” as well. I think that’s her peak role. Like, she makes use of all the obvious attractiveness that she has in “From Dusk till Dawn” but she also is in the most prominent role and gets display her acting talents in a wider fashion (though I appreciate the genre camp Rodriguez is going for in…
I’m super impressed with the actor they got for 5. He was my least favorite of the Umbrella kids in the comic, just because he was so unbelievable and also a total condescending asshole (though I like how the show establishes he was that way even before he got stranded in time for decades). But the kid who portrays…
good point about Vanya. The show even makes a point that she’s second chair until that gaslighting moron boyfriend of hers murders the first chair.
Luthor was way more likeable than his comics version. Same with 5. I disliked both of them and the Rumor in the comics, but the actors really elevated the characters so much they became enjoyable and I could actually connect with them. Same with Hazel and Cha Cha. I think part of why a lot of nothing happens is…
While I think your interpretation is perhaps a bit uncharitable, you’re not wrong at all haha. Though with shows like this, and the netflix Marvel ones, you can’t ever have people communicate like adults or go through typical social conventions. Always have to withhold things for no reason or lie “for the greater…
I think part of that is the source material was rather sparse at the time of the adaptation. The writers wrote another story arc while the first season was being adapted, so maybe that’ll help them pad out the second season. Didn’t help that a good chunk of the first season got undone by time travel shenanigans.
I came here to say the same thing. Even if you won’t be mixing your genes incestuously it is still very weird that people are somehow OK with hooking up with someone you’ve treated as a sibling since you were born. Like, it was sort of funny when “Arrested Development” had just layers upon layers of incest jokes but…
Definitely the best thing Snyder has done, and I really did think his ending was better (hard to put Moore’s in a film without adding maybe another hour explaining it) and that opening sequence was delightful. However, almost everything else was just a shot for shot remake of the comic with no creativity. I understand…
I’m glad that each show had not only the perfect cast but also the right amount of derivation from the comics. For me, “Watchmen” was a great example of how slavish devotion to shot for shot recreations straight from the pages, yet lacking in self-awareness, can fail an adaptation even with the best of casts. Though…
I like them both so much. They’re both funny comic book satires that can get pretty dark. But the Tick was more buoyant whereas The Boys is content to let itself drown in depravity. in a good way, most of the time.
Mmmm red hot civil disobedience always gets me going Savage Nobody!
In many of the responses to your post I’ve seen people mention that cheating can improve a relationship by being the catalyst for a big important conversation and airing of other grievances that can be as emotionally cathartic as it is practical for the continued lifespan of the relationship. Though I think I agree…
That is a hell of an idea. I’m about one Karamazov through the book (so a quarter of the way if we include Fyodor Pavlovich in our Karamazov count) at the moment, I love it so far! Though getting dogs drunk and violent may be a bit much for a kids show haha.
This kid and the baby from Nirvana’s “Nevermind” need to hang out some and swap stories.
I liked Rose and Bernard from “Lost” as well.
I agree about the stereotypes, like I’m all for Velma being queer if it is written into her character correctly and not done as either exploitation or as some sort of “checklist” for a Scooby show/movie to appear progressive. I definitely have read her as a queer icon but not for any of her outward appearance…
