your problem with a news site was it reported on the news, christ you people are ridiculous

For every good article posted on Splinter there was another that was wayyy too far up its own asshole. The commenters there were insufferable at best and raving lunatics at worst. But man the unceremonious shuttering and subsequent gag order is spectacularly shitty. I'm glad I use an ad blocker.

Counterpoint: Splinter was a terrible site filled with reactionary assholes, that had long since worn out it’s welcome.

In general, announcers call any foul ball that goes back toward the catcher a “foul tip,” no matter where it ends up. Specifically, a “foul tip” is a ball that is hit by the bat and then goes directly to the catcher’s glove or hand and is then caught.

However, perhaps because it’s hard to wrap your mind around the idea of a major leaguer swinging at a pitch so off-target, umpire Cory Blaser saw this as a foul tip from Sanchez.

The need for you to be absolutely certain to change a call is maddening. It’s ok for you to make a call in a split second with bodies flailing, and that call has more importance than when you get to slow it down and look at it? There should be no “Call Stands.” The call on the field should have no bearing whatsoever

I don’t know that an episode of a podcast has ever made me as angry as last weeks Hater’s Guide to the MLB Playoffs ep of the Deadcast when Drew, Lauren and Roth said they’d rather root for the Yankees over the Rays. Get fucked Deadcast, let’s go Rays!

↑↑↑ This!! ↑↑↑

i would root for a baseball team comprised of ISIS members before rooting for the yankees

I look forward to the content from all of the former SI staffers that will be independent contractors to Deadspin twenty five minutes from now.

When is the last time anyone who’s complaining bought a copy of Sports Illustrated?  Anyone?  Or did anything digitally that produces revenue for them?  No?  ok then.

Refs blew another call.  He could have gotten up and scored a TD.

Is the concept of playing a game “the right way” no longer valid? To be sure, some of the unwritten rules aren’t relevant anymore, but are we as the sports-consuming public fine with an absence of sportsmanship? Isn’t that what much of what we call playing “the right way” actually is, being good sports and treating

Can you lay off Haisley and McKinney?

Exactly. This is without question the most overblown BS in the history of sports.
