I don't understand how the game could run poorly on a Core i7 and a Geforce 690. What frame rates are you getting exactly? Even if the i7 is old, I can't imagine it being much slower than current processors right? If anything, that i7 is probably the bottleneck though...

I can't get the hi res texture pack to work. I downloaded it on steam, then when I try to change the setting to "On" in my options, it goes back to "Off." Am I missing something??

You drop in and try to survive as long as possible. You only start off with a bandage and flashlight, and have nothing to defend yourself. There is no map unless you pick up a map item, and even then, it's hard to figure out where you are since it's like looking at a paper map.
