US patents don't expire early from non-use. They only expire early if you don't pay the maintenance fees or if a court rules them invald: [www.bpmlegal.com]

There's no need to immediately file suit against an alleged infringer. Maybe you're confusing patent law with trademark law?

"Thing is, Google was recognizing numerical strings (including phone numbers) and tailoring search results to them long before the iPhone came out. Dating back to at least 2006 (maybe earlier)..."

Maybe I should have emphasized stronger in my initial comment. This effective higher contribution limit only applies if you're maxing out your contribution (hitting the $16.5k IRS limit).

Here's how it works...

They have Roth 401k plans as well as Roth IRAs. If an employer matches contributions to a traditional 401k, they'll almost certainly match contributions to a Roth 401k.

Since this seems to be a common refrain, let's clear this up:

If you're maxing out your 401k contributions, you should consider electing to contribute to a Roth 401k if you have the option. The contributions to a Roth 401k are taxed, but the distributions (i.e., withdrawals) are tax-free (traditional 401k contributions are tax-free but distributions are taxed). The rationale

First line of article: Gizmodo said today they will stop using sensationalized headlines in 2012 if there is a solar eclipse on January 3, 2012 and a lunar eclipse the following evening. When asked for comment, Gizmodo writers said, "haha, made you look!"

Err, the ATT penalty is $4 billion, not $3 million.

I preheat my carafe with boiling water and then add ~202F water. Because some heat is lost to the carafe and the grounds, the actual brew temperature winds up being about 198F, which is just about right. Once the carafe is full, you want the water to be in that 197-201F range. If you don't preheat the carafe,

The Capresso Infinity grinder ($90) is very good. Yeah, it's a little more than the $50 burr grinders our there, but it outperforms them and will last approximately forever (think of the difference as $5/year over 10 years).

I like about 1oz per 24oz, which comes about 3/4 up the side of my "four cup" Bodum press. So you're in the right ballpark. If you're filling the carafe to the top with water, you could try using a little more. Whatever tastes best to you is best!

I'll vouch for it. The cupping method works wonders. Leave the last ounce or two behind and you've got an awesome, full-bodied cup with almost no grit.

Capresso Infinity for $90 should do just fine.

Three possibilities:

Like most (all?) coffee methods, the FP has its strengths and weakness, and requires some technique to do it right. Bad beans, bad grind, bad technique —> bad coffee, regardless of the actual method.

SV eggs make a great way to demonstrate the difference that precise temperature control can make.

Just like the SVS/Foodsaver say their bags are safe, Ziploc says their bags are microwave safe, which means they should be fine a SV temps.
