The Sci-Fi Channel Dune is pretty good, but it suffers from lack of money. You can especially see the poor production values in the desert scenes, which totally look like a soundstage.

Natalie Portman was also saddled with worse dialogue than Christiansen in Star Wars. Lucas is a bad writer, but he's especially terrible at writing emotional stuff. They both had to deal with it, but at least Christiansen got to do other things. Portman only got to swoon, Lucas-style.
