Yeah, "Datalore" is disappointing, but it's one of the earliest times where you can really see the potential in TNG. It's the closest they've come to a really good episode yet.

Don't they make some allusion to it in "Encounter at Farpoint," when Riker first meets Data in the holodeck? It was the first time Riker had seen an android like that.
