Our plan is to spend a few years in Orlando, to be closer to family and mine and my wife’s Puerto Rican culture (but without the depressingly bad economy and crime problems of just going back home to PR); and then once our kid is ready to start school, moving to Virginia or NC.

Rant incoming:

You're describing a perfect scenario, which Miami (and Florida in general) do not experience.

Neither one is perfect, in fact, they both suck.

It’s an industry that also artificially depresses wages for the entire region.

Miamian here.

I’m well aware of how much western tech goes into them. Until 2016, I worked in aerospace for three of the largest multinational aerospace corporations on the planet (1 US based, 1 UK based, 1 Canadian, and not at the same time obvs), and with two of these, we did plenty of work for the SSJ and MC21.

Oh, I get that they’re running a lot of old shit, yet they’ve developed a decently modern regional jet with the SSJ, they’ve got the MC21 on the horizon, and beyond that, pre-invasion, many aerospace multinationals had operations and R&D operations in the country.

This isn't 1986, it's 2022, and Russia's had access to modern technology and processes for decades.

If there’s one country I could see continuing to fly these safely, it’s Russia. They likely have the resources domestically to reverse engineer and produce the parts they need.  And since they no longer care about international law, I don't think IP issues are a problem.

I know.

Tesla doesn’t raise the price, but they still pull shenanigans. My sister’s Model S was delayed for 4 months, but if she was “ willing” to buy a Plaid, she could have one within the week.

My sister loves hers, for the exact same reason that I love my very boring, predictable, and reliable washing machine.

I can’t believe I’m defending dealers, but at least with dealers you’re free to find another who'll do MSRP. With Tesla, you don't get a choice who to buy from.

Used Chevy Volt.  I picked up a low mileage lease return 2018 CPO'd for $20k out the door not too long ago.

Mazda acknowledges that its dealers are facing parts shortages, so this could take time to fix

I use National Car Rental when I want high mileage limits... as in no limits.

Funny, it’s Tanner who I found to be insufferable.

Towards the end it got a lot better.  But too little, too late.

They do these back home - all the police have to do is announce their location in the press.  And every single car gets stopped and checked.

I've driven one from Miami to New York and back.
