I love lox. One of the worst things about going on a diet was having to give up my bagel with lox lunch that I had on all my days off. I didn't bring it to work because I didn't want to sully the amazingness that is lox with the misery that is work.
My mind immediately went there too. This is basically the philosophy I've used to stop paying to attention to all the joint pain that's descended on me in the past year, only I quote Princess Bride in my head when I get too sad.
If I see a listing like that around here I instantly wonder what's wrong with it, although it might be all right if it's a foreclosure.
Well, shit. Now I'm less excited to buy a house, since anywhere I can get a nice $200k house corresponds to a lower income for me, but the same monthly expense as my rent currently in a high median income area.
There's a lot of reasons people choose an area: being in a career where jobs are scarce and you go where you get one, proximity to family, living there your whole life and it being your home, being a hardcore city mouse, NOT enjoying a 40 minute commute (I've done commutes of lengths from 10 minutes to 1.5 hours, and…
Umm.... show me this $200,000 home in San Francisco, I'll be sure to jump on it.
I live Lake Merritt -ish, and we're at almost $1400/mo for a 2 bedroom 1 bath. Looking on craigslist out of curiosity, similar things are going for about $2000 now. We've been seriously victimized by crime twice in 4 years :/ The second time I really wanted to pitch a fit and move, but there's nowhere to move to;…
I have a tiny family, and my husband and I both don't have very many friends, so it was almost a struggle to fill out a guest list for us. We were going to keep it ruthlessly small, but then people started inviting themselves; his mom kept calling and saying "you're inviting cousin soandso right? She really wants to…
Because they tell everyone that their way is the best way and that a gluten free diet cures all the world's ills. I had someone tell me I need cut gluten and nightshades (what did nightshades ever do?) out of my diet to heal my chronic joint pain. I'm sure if this person knew about my chronic depression, she'd suggest…
That's my "the usual!" Nothing wrong with that, it's a menu drink with an added shot, which is also a thing on the menu. It's the elaborate requests that veer off the menu that get ridiculous.
But.... why would you want to eat while doing this ?! I couldn't possibly stomach any food. The one time I tried to break up with someone in a public place I made him come to a busy coffee shop, didn't order anything, pulled us aside as much as possible and whispered. Then I married him, so I am clearly a failure at…
Since I am on that 1980 cusp, I choose to describe myself as a Gen-Xer. Maybe Gen Y. Never millenial. I do not want to be lumped in with that.
This is mild in comparison, but I used to have this coworker who would order frappuccinos from Starbucks. She wanted a grande amount in a venti cup, with the empty space filled up with whipped cream, and some other requests. I went Starbucks every day over lunch and she'd often give me her Starbucks card and ask me to…
I was definitely a "thrill seeker" in college, and I'm pretty sure I churned out better work under pressure. So there.
Again - get sick of cooking. Not my favorite thing to do. Never will be.
I get zero calorie guilt :) the occasional super fancy meal is worth it to us, but most of the time it's two meals a week out at relatively cheap places. One of the things I really try to do is spend money on experiences and not stuff. It's so much more satisfying in the long run. I put fancy dinner into the…
My husband and I have talked about cutting back on eating out, and he always says no. Saving money is important, but so is enjoying life. If I look back in 30 or however many years, I think I really would regret it if I rarely ate out. Plus I get sick of cooking!
Fruit is mostly sugar, veggies are better for you anyway. Not that fruit is particularly that bad for you, but if you're eating a lot of veggies and little fruit, it's better than a lot of fruit and little veggies.
I automate everything, including my $2100/month (no joke) student loan payment. But I also constantly check on everything to make sure all those autopayments didn't drain my bank account too much and make sure I know where I'm at. But this can be dangerous if your income isn't sufficiently high to avoid overdrafts. I…
