The horizontal speedo dates this one from early in the 94 run.  It was toward the end of this model year that they made the switch to round speedos and the model didn’t go back to them, so this is one of the last.

Long ago I took to heart the words of the great Jackie Stewart who said, “good driving, for me, is smooth driving.” The key to making a car go fast, or last a long time, or get good economy, is doing nothing in an upsetting fashion.

Cars like this outlive their ancient curses. They are the ancient curse: “I damn you to reliable transportation that is devoid of passion but too reliable to ever replace!  Live your days in unfettered boredom, mortal.”

It sure as hell isn’t exciting, but a lot of the time what you want isn’t exciting. What you want is durable, reliable, economical - things that help assure that your day doesn’t become exciting.

The price on the Opel is ridiculous. It looks immaculate though, and may have been the recipient of a comprehensive restoration. Certainly it looks better than most you see. And the bit about the taillights, to the best of my knowledge, is correct. My mom’s own ‘72 has the little single reverse light.

Why are they showing car concepts when cars aren’t selling? There are NO Lincoln-branded cars on offer, they’re all SUV-based things.

That’s actually a decent price for a hybrid of that size, with that kind of mileage, with that kind of failure. You could get a newer Prius for that money with that kind of mileage on, and be only halfway to the Prius’ anticipated life...but you can’t tow much with a Prius.

Usually a ship’s pitch isn’t a big deal, except for relatively small craft in middling- to high seas. But mighty (snort) Novgorod pitched every bit as well as she rolled, so there was no conveniently stable direction you could lean to ride out rough waters. Every wall came at you with equal violence.

This has nothing to do with the article: I really kind of like the look of the Ohmler and want to know if that’s something you thunk up yourself.

No, I just really like words, poetic imagery and the Countach.

This is the 1270 model.

My son REALLY wants a Maverick but is holding off while Ford gets their historically slow-footed shit together.

That looks like more than just a cosmetic failure. That looks like the whole edge is delaminating.

If anyone can come up with a reason for a laser to be on a car, Lamborghini will.

Anyone who doesn’t like it can kiss my ass. Or not. I don’t care.

You can forget any new wedges at that price. Besides, “wedge” speaks pretty clearly of the far more rectilinear 80s and 90s than anything currently on offer. If the buyer is serious about the wedginess...

Because that sensor is only in the passenger seat.  They expect all the drivers to be too big for boosters.

I’ll say it again because it clearly bears repeating, even Consumer Reports says so:

Giving the builder the title of “builder” is charity. Why construct when you can contrapt?

The electric motor suggestion received a fair amount of hate when it was made; I was surprised to see it in the results but I wonder if getting into the slideshow isn’t based on the quality of the responses a suggestion generates, but just the quantity.
