Let me try to flesh out the thought process I had when I heard the words. It’ll take a lot more words than it did concepts and I don’t know even now whether you and I are in agreement. Here goes:

“All input is error” is the philosophy of the railway passenger. Get on, arrive at destination, get off. You don’t give commands, you only opt when to begin and when to cease using the service.

Do NOT be slamming on Billy Squier while I’m around.

Goddammit.

This is one of the more relevant comments on this page. Jalopnik’s quality has been suffering of late but you could as easily point to the various throes of suffering making their way through the entire industry; automotive everything is unsettled lately.

Seems kinda crazy that dogs have more rights than us humans, I say shit to your bowel’s content!

Speaking from the experience of my own parking lot, this is apparently not widely known. Maybe it’s just a Tennessee thing?

Oh, Ben. Ben, Ben, Ben.

Oh, Ben. Ben, Ben, Ben.

Build a cabover plugin hybrid. Fit it with just enough engine to cruise comfortably at 80mph all day. Fit it with enough battery to deliver 80 EV miles at 80mph.

In a way this is in fact how it’s done. You test materials to destruction and then extrapolate from those values. You stress a beam until it deforms, then you take some fraction of the load just before it deformed as the maximum safe load, and have the unused capacity in reserve as overhead to compensate for age,

The force of the wind acting on the sail (in the water, with a boat), and the resistive force of the water acting sideways on the sailboat’s centerboard, causes the entire craft to be squished forward like a watermelon seed squeezed between your thumb and forefinger.

Now playing

The DWFTW cart has been around for a while; Veritasium’s recent interest is a bit behind the times.

Nice Supra.

It’s about goddamned time.

If I was a police captain and that guy came rolling in at work with that stuff on his vehicle, I’d send him back for retraining, sensitivity training, anger management...until he quit.

So apparently drivers are reading the safe driving manual, but the cops are not.

I agree, which is why I pointed out the percentage improvement in addition to the raw numbers.

I’ve always thought that this was the kind of thing you bought and pulled up into the yard next to a fourth-gen wrecked-but-running Chevy 1500 pickup and carefully extract all the original British bits from the Rover and deposit them in a dumpster, while removing all the American bits from the Chevy and reinstall them

It’s handsome and would be fun to own, but I’d rather have the similar - and similarly-impractical - Jeep Wagoneer SJ. Same sort of power and economy, slightly larger, posh (for an American SUV) and good looking.
