Maybe because human space travel is, for all present purposes, pretty much impossible? Humans have yet to leave the immediate orbit of our own planet, and, even if we successfully send a manned mission to Mars, all that's there is a bunch of rocks that look more or less like Jordan. Tally Ho?

"But hopefully [Chandler] gets a chance to stop by the Apollo 11 Mission Control to prevent that mechanical flaw he read about in the paper dated the next day, delivered with a mysterious orange cat, from destroying the whole venture."

Heh, that's pretty much my biggest takeaway from serving: despite all the common rules and customs we may have learned/picked up/been exposed to, there's as much diversity in opinion/personality/character within the services as there is outside them. Cheers. :)

"Lately, war movies have been less about how cool war is and more about how much war can fuck you up." … The entire post-Vietnam War era is "lately"?

Um, as a veteran who happens to be a West Wing-style leftie, and who's been thanked for his service a handful of times, I always found it a moving compliment from people who definitely considered me human, and were thanking me for volunteering to spend a few years away from my family and home. Person Wishing for a

Probably some combination of the show's budget cuts/wanting to do new things. I'd love to have her (and Hunter!) back too, but if they think their dwindling money is better spent on new elements, given the quality of their output, I'm okay with that, too.

The same guy played Reinhard Heydrich in Lidice and Anthropoid. No doubt there are others. Also, Timothy Bottoms played W. Bush in the Parker/Stone show That's My Bush! as well as the po-faced DC 9/11: Time of Crisis

More than a little Back to the Future on that "Big Boys" video…

"Hey, at least I don't fridge all my heroes' wives like that Nolan guy." - Spielberg

It's an ensemble movie. She may have comparable screen time to the others, but in a main cast of five or six, that's not saying a whole lot. "Co-lead" should apply to, say, Chris Tucker in Rush Hour, not Cap in The Avengers.

Well, she was leading the team in the Danger Room last we saw of them, so yeah, that's the default assumption. ;)

Well, I don't love it either, but the end of Apocalypse did position Mystique as the new team leader, so it would be weird (though not necessarily unwelcome) for her to ditch them again. As for Mags… yeah, beats me. The end of First Class set him up as the new supervillain in town, only for Singer to sideline him

Dear AV Club, your readers pay attention to pop culture; ergo, we know who James Mangold is, and don't have to be reminded of his latest movie in a headline.

*Ding!*

The Navy is overall shown in a positive light, yes. Your point being? That doesn't detract from the show's quality, unless one demands zombie-flavored nihilism from one's cable entertainment.

That may be part of it, and if so, it's a pity. I myself am a Navy veteran, and I'm to the left of most Democratic Senators. The Last Ship does have moments of "America, F—- Yeah!", but it also has plenty of moments, scenes, and whole plot arcs of Americans, including some military members, being lousy people who do

"The movie made over $229 million worldwide on a $140 million budget, which means it did make money": Not necessarily, when you factor in the theaters' take and the massive advertising costs. If it made money, and I have no idea if it did, it certainly didn't do so at the box office alone. Jesus, has Barsanti ever

Dear AV Club, feel free to forget about this lame show and instead review TNT's legitimately good and actually action-packed post-apocalyptic series The Last Ship. You won't have to struggle to find new ways to complain about open-ended, go-nowhere narratives every damn week!

Fun fact: "Smooth", played 10 times in a row, still has less lyrical repetition than a mere one one play of either Rihanna's "This is What You Came For" or "Work".

They're both great, though I'll always be somewhat disappointed that A) Finney didn't reprise his role and B) Branagh didn't reprise his FDR role from Warm Springs. Also, Gleason is younger than Finney, which might be weird if one were to watch them back to back. But they're both on Amazon Prime, and both absolutely
