Keep in mind that most places that pay min wage also don’t hire full time workers (benefits are the most expensive), so it’s not 7.25/40 hours a week, it’s usually more like 7.25/25-35 hours. One of the biggest reason people need multiple jobs just to scrape together 39 hours a week.

I keep forgetting that you guys have a two-party system! Here in Germany, even though Merkel’s party has the highest number of seats in parliament they are still not the absolute majority. It does seem to be a pretty smart way to prevent giving one party too much power.
