Elight years ago my BMW dealership put a few i3's into their loaner fleet. I ended up trying one out when my X3 was in for service. Long story short....I bought an i3. Still have it, love it, and will be replacing it with another EV (longer range). In the meantime my wife purchased a Toyota Rav4 Prime which is driven

Yup. One is a Nissan dealer and the other is a Ford-Kia-Toyota dealer, so let just say one of them has a much better hand.

The horse and buggy comparisons are so, so tiring.

If I were a dealer I’d look into installing as many fast DC chargers as possible. Those that buy from me get 1 year of free fast charging (for 45 min at a time per day).

Your friend and cousin are preparing for the new future? Good for them.

i’m sure horse carriage dealers bitched incessantly 100 years ago too.

One of my best friends from high school as well as a cousin each have dealerships. They are good people who do a lot for the local community.

To use technical definitions: Fuck Them.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. Coasters definitely have a different set of problems than a large part of the USA. I am much more concerned about deer and animal accidents than the 30 seconds a day I may have to idle at a light, the few days a week I visit a town with a light that is. Goes to show that blanket coast

I didn’t realize I accidently opened the ‘local issues’ section of the NYT  read this article. Didn’t even realize we had anti-idling laws in the US.

Probably the strangest part of consumer product design is having to design your widget for expected misuse: the idea that saying “well that’s not how you were supposed to use it,” when a consumer is injured using a product in an unintended, but totally predictable way.

exactly this. And what are they going to do when the driver isn’t paying attention? Disengage the system? Of course not. It’s just going to beep louder. People are too fucking dumb, selfish, ignorant, or whatever for this technology.

Maybe humans just aren’t cut out to use driver-assistance systems.

What is autopilot for?
