Turn out Johnson didn’t want to subvert expectations THAT much:
“George Lucas created Jar Jar lulz!” ceased being a valid retort right around the time Rian had Luke milk the thala-siren.
Even though you knew Bucky was brainwashed and not acting of his own free will? That’s beyond irrational.
He tries to joke around because he doesn’t want to accept that it might really come down to him having to kill her. And then she forces him to process it.
Doctor Strange knew that it had to go down exactly as it did. Star Lord’s rage is technically part of the plan.
This is the fanboy film that the mega fans wanted.
The kind of people who might even see a movie 2 or 3 times in a weekend.
I apologize for posting the same thing twice, but:
Black Panther and Infinity War opened two months apart. They’re currently on pace to make $700 million domestic EACH. BP is around $1.5 billion worldwide, while IW may cross the two billion barrier. “Fatigue” is just CYA for “yeah we managed to drive a good portion of the hardcore fans away”.

For me, it’s not the fact that he’s not attracted to Asian men. It’s the way he goes on to talk about how Takei couldn’t possibly attract a white blond surfer dude.
He explained, “He was 20 years older than me and short. And I wasn’t attracted to Asian men.”
Of course! Anyone who calls out the ham-fisted preachiness of the movies MUST be alt-right! Of course! No true Scotsman would ever think of being critical!
