I’m glad to hear someone else talk about the artistry of Selma. I don’t think the film got enough credit for that. I’m also starting to wonder if sexism played a part in some people’s criticism the more I think about it. Fortunately, DuVernay doesn’t seem bothered as she’s probably dealt with stuff like this for a

Now that you mention it, one of the reasons I liked the movie was because it did not adopt the white savior narrative. If I liked it for that reason, then it makes that certain white people would dislike it for the same reason.

He’s really the worst kind of “ally”. He speaks about police brutality and claims to write movies like Django to help black people, but he has to dominate the conversation. He has to be in front of black people rather than next to them or behind when appropriate.

I think that that’s a word for word quote in the movie Lawless. The grammar isn’t wrong. It’s dialect.

I’m leaning towards Bernie, but I don’t know if I’ll vote for either in either election. I cannot stand Clinton and I cannot stand either of their supporters. Black people (and people of color, in general) really need to work fucking hard to get solid candidates with solid followers in the next election. I really

Can you imagine being black and having white people constantly make you responsible for getting out of your own oppression?

There was a certain amount of "humble-bragging" from people on that hashtag as at least one other poster pointed out. Those posts were a problem. However, I appreciated most of the tweets for the simple fact that they represented a widespread acknowledgement of White privilege by White people which rarely if ever
