Feeling the same way. I was actually playing through Mass Effect series again. I think I see what seems off. It’s that the cast is so young and the pixar style of character animation. That comedic style really throws me for Mass Effect.

This is the cycle of RPGs. You have a lump of good ones and failed ones, then maybe a couple here and there to hold you until the next lump of games.

I keep hoping to see something pop up in the like of Sunrise more sci-fi stuff but so far just more of the same. Talking stuff like Banner/Crest of the Star, Mai Hime/Otome, The Girl That Leapt Through Space, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere and Accel World (SAO was similar but more fantasy than Sci-Fi).

There is a Dreamcast entry in the series called Evolution. You start as a cellular organism and work your way up using genes you find to evolve how you want. It’s a pretty fun game and has some crazy story that is rushed at you at the end of the game but is unnecessary.
