I think ADHD/hyperactive type in general is more difficult for society to accept in women. ADHD men are seen as maybe a little unfocused but are also seen as "energetic" and "active." My doctor pointed out that ADHD people tend to do well in high-stimulation jobs where they have an assistant take care of all the

@BubbaYaga: J.Crew Crewcuts recently started making size 14, AND it's free shipping from the online store (they hardly ever stock size 14 in-store). The saleswoman leaned in and whispered to me, "Always wait for the sales, it's not worth it otherwise; and order as much as you want online b/c it doesn't cost anything

@Artemis47: Real Simple has an article about typical prices for common tailoring jobs and says it's $20 for taking in a shirt. My tailor charges me less but I know tailors on the other (fancier) side of town charge more, so mileage may vary.

@TurnItOff: Find a tailor with decent prices and learn to recognize what can/can't be taken in. I find that women in the US are very reluctant to alter clothes, but it's seriously the best thing, especially if you're significantly off the "average" size (whatever the hell that is.)

@Cairnevil: Actually, I am trying to avoid cluttering this up with dogma. that's why my original post was on-topic (about interfaith relationships), and why I'm stopping any responses to your religious bear-baiting now. :-)

@Cairnevil: I never said I believe Jesus is THE way the truth and the life. I believe he is ONE way. I also don't believe that converting people gets you extra credit God points.

@SarahMC: As a commie-leaning feminist Catholic, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

This will be almost essay-length b/c I have a lot of experience with this, with both sides. I practice the Catholic version of high holiday Reform Judaism, hah. Every guy I've ever dated is either agnostic or atheist. So I've been the other side of this coin, and what my partners have said to me is that they really

@HRH Your Cuntness aka likepenguins: Totally agree with you - and it sounds similar to what others are saying about using drunkeness as an excuse for his misogynist/racist/violent/generally vile rantings.

"It's people with publicists who get the opportunity to convince us that they're sick, while many actually sick people end up in prison, having been labeled "bad."

@lacey in ak: 34" inseams combined with 24" waists are even more perplexing to me - I see this size ALL THE TIME and I wonder how big this market is?!

@tiptoesindreams: Everyone I know who is less than 5'5" (the majority of my female acquaintances) need to hem their jeans. I feel like jeans hemming should be a human right! - or at the least, free.

@HillaryMuff: My mom, who has very Filipino features (as opposed to mestiza - mixed Chinese/Spanish) but extremely pale skin, always got told as a kid that she was so ugly, but at least she was lucky and was pale. Then when she was going to marry my dad, my grandma was upset because my dad was so dark, and so the

@ZaxxonQ.com: Because it's not "fake pale in a tube." Skin whitening creams can have severe negative health effects: thinning of the skin, irritation, burning, sometimes counterfeit products contain mercury or are cut with other dangerous chemicals (and are bought by poor women in India because dark = poor = there go

@daradoodle: I visited my partner's family in Sweden, and one of the first things his relative told me about was the new government program that was basically mandating men take their fair share of parental leave b/c "we in Sweden don't think that it should be only the women who carries the burden." (I think Jez

Used to think Jackson Rathbone was cute. Until I read that he'd said that being Asian means ""[pulling] my hair up, [shaving] the sides, and definitely [getting] a tan. It’s one of those things where, hopefully, the audience will suspend disbelief a little bit.""

@ambrmerlinus: My family had the chance to see it for free (we're all boycotting it b/c of the casting), and still didn't go see it. Very glad that we made that choice, after reading all the reviews. Paradoxically, it'd be harder for me to walk out of a free movie than one I paid for.

@betteroffred, @melissamahoney: good point - I guess what I was really trying to get at was that shoes tend to be easier than clothes, although there are obviously still people who are excluded from this market.

Agree with the "easy" explanation. In an industry that doesn't really cater to women of body shapes that fall outside the supposed "ideal" (i.e. those of us who are petite, or overweight, or busty, or...etc etc), shoes are often the only thing that fit without a need for alterations. Plus, you don't have to take off
