If they don’t want to be seen as a budget brand, they should can their stylist. It’s like they’re designing with Duplo blocks when everybody else is using Legos, plus gauche and incoherent.
I recall from my auto crossing days that the C4s outperformed the C5s despite differences in horsepower, chassis advances, etc. Without looking up the numbers, my guess is lower and lighter ftw.
You were unprepared for the pandemic and you had to rethink your new career path? Have you considered a position with CDC?
Most modern cars have their pumps submerged in the tank. That wouldn’t work well if what you said were true. Fun fact: pure H2O is an insulator too.
Actually, this is good news. If only enthusiasts want manuals, then only cars for enthusiasts will be made with them, and they will be more specifically designed for that niche. Imagine more cars like Miatas made for the joy of driving, instead of telling yourself that your manual Caravan is better.
In a perfect world, GM would just shut the plant down. Not that complicated.
I think my wife may have killed me just for reading this article.
Having changed the oil and filter on a 2003 RS6, I’m sympathetic to team lazy idiots.
Ahhhhhhhh. All the misunderstanding of economics in the comments. My head hurts just reading it.
I put Akebonos on my wife’s E91 and they did great. They’re not too expensive. Slightly less bite than OEM, but super quiet and hardly any dust to speak of.
You’re right, it’s the 3.4. I don’t know why I had it in my head that it was the S motor. This car was an ‘01 Boxster S so it had all kinds of issues. Windows that didn’t behave properly, security system going off if you didn’t do everything in a specific sequence, etc.
It may be more complicated than the Miata mill, but you can buy bootleg factory repair manuals off ebay for like $10. As long as you can follow instructions you can do it. I’m sure it’ll be more than DIYing a Miata, but if you get your parts from the right place and it’s not your DD, you can do it.
I’ll tell you what makes a great replacement if you blow up the origina: the 3.8 from a Carrera S. The extra grunt really makes it crackle. You do have to be careful about the years, because if you get it wrong some of the electrical/computer aspects won’t match up properly. I spent some time trying to sort one that…
In that case, thank you so much for your part in building that ecosystem. It’s certainly the only way I was able to afford to mess with anything German.
Per my previous comment, did you check Pelican for non-Porsche-branded OEM rotors? I guess a little late now...
Pelican Parts and Autohaus AZ can save you piles of money. Plus great forums at PP for DIYers.
I don’t always agree with you, but I’ve driven a couple Boxsters and they are so nice. Great balance, good go. The engine is smooth and it doesn’t set your teeth on edge when you’re pressing it or highway cruising like an I4. And it makes that fantastic, growly, trumpety noise. If you want to drive purely for the joy…
I think trying to decide which group is at fault misses the point. There is an issue with the system. I think calling it systemic racism implies intent that isn’t always there and gets people’s hackles up in ways that hinder progress, but there are definitely laws, policies, conventions, etc in place that make it…
So true-I’m a long-time visitor of both. That version of BaT, which I liked a lot better, just doesn’t exist anymore. The new BaT is the one I’m talking about. I haven’t been on Jalopnik as long—Matt Hardigree was basically gone by the time I got here—but I’ve seen the changes here too. It’s a shame. I realize…
