I felt Norton was playing Graham as basically shell-shocked, a guy who was an introvert and introspective to begin with who was then unbelievably traumatized. He's retreated to Florida where he doesn't seem to have much contact with people outside of his family, but then pushed back into action. So I read his

I also think Thomas Harris maybe fell a bit too much in love with his creation. The ending of Hannibal comes across like "Fannibal" fan-fic.

Yeah, I think Aliens was great as a sequel, but not so great as the second chapter in an ongoing franchise. It created an irresistible hook out of the "holy shit" factor of taking the terrifying, near-invulnerable Alien and multiplying it by hundreds. The audience went in already aware how scary and unbeatable the

Ratner's name on Red Dragon did lower my expectations, which made the actual film a pleasant surprise. I don't think Ratner's an actively horrible filmmaker, just a competent if uninspired journeyman who rises to the level of his material, but no further. Red Dragon was almost director-proof with a cast that boasted

Whoa, just realized that Bane was basically a less-articulate Torgo.

I would say so. So much about the porn industry has been exposed and discussed in popular culture since the late 90s that even those who consider it immoral wouldn't find much in Wallace's expedition into that world that they haven't already seen or read about.

So it's a less-skeevy updating of "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)"? Whoa!

I…can't tell if this is a defense of the song, or a condemnation!

I found him!!

By now? Probably.

I haven't read Infinite Jest, but I do tend to prefer super-long novels simply because I enjoy the feeling of being immersed in a fictional world for a few weeks/months.

More like David Shocker Wallace amirite

I (re)read "Big Red Son" recently, and I was surprised at how quaintly moralistic it sounds from today's jaded perspective. I mean, it's still funny as hell and a great essay, but there probably would have been a lot of eye rolling if it had been published today.

I actually really liked Studio 60, but it was like someone at NBC realized Sorkin was just using the show to stealthily reboot West Wing, and put the hammer down.

The Newsroom probably would have gotten more seasons if they killed a few media pundits during production.

I stopped watching around season four, but isn't it basically set in an alternative-universe America in which 9/11 never happened?

"The Lady In Red" — but ironically.

I was amused that someone still remembers L'Trimm, but then I was sad when I remembered that I actually owned a cassingle of "Cars That Go Boom."

Or the good old "I hate it because it's popular and, uh…it's popular."
