The police are already protected by increased penalties for assaulting one of them or causing harm. Crime committed against the police is already punished more harshly than other crime. They are already a protected class. Honestly, including them in hate crime legislation along with the groups the police routinely…

no they aren’t. one of my certifications was electrical, and we were always exhorted to never wear things like rings or watches while doing such work, unless you were ok with having a ring or watch melted into your flesh. 12 volt car batteries can’t shock you, but they can dump thousands of amps into a short circuit.
