One time I wrote something on Gawker or Jezebel along the same lines as what I wrote here, but it was way more severe and lashy-outy, and someone was like, “Um, it sounds like what you’re describing is what YOU think, not what others are thinking.” That was an eye-opener and I think about it a lot.

In my case, diabetes runs in both sides of my family. Now there’s that. Additionally, a few years ago I went into a downwards spiral after a breakup and was suicidal and all that. I had a few months of bad eating which prompted the diabetes to begin. I don’t really think I should be “punished” for that.
