Sports cars aren’t just about speed and performance. The driving experience is far more important to me than number on paper. I want to feel connected with a car, and feel that a manual transmission is necessary to do so. My truck is automatic and I’m alright with that. The truck is an appliance, not a toy.

You are 100% right, except...I bought a truck just like you described just a couple years ago, floor mats, crank windows, no power steering...for $950, a base model ‘97 Ranger. My wife also grew up in the city and learned to drive at 32. Her first car was a 1990 740 turbo sedan. She loved it. Now she has a 91 740 wagon because she wants to haul more stuff. You were on the right track with the $300 1985 volvo.
