Totally agree. At the very least they could've spent a few extra bucks on a straight-to-dvd movie to tie everything up. The ones they made for SG-1 were pretty good.

There could be some sort of sync between the hosts. Those inside the train letting the ones outside know that it's safe to shoot at a certain area. William was the only guest there, so keeping him safe wouldn't be that difficult.
