+1 for Zotero as a research assistant. I haven't used Mendeley, but Zotero sure can organize some sources and generate citations. Plus, now you can use it independently of Firefox.

I gotta vote for the Google Books store. It lets you download many of the books, for use on your favorite gizmo, but also their cloud-based reader is pretty decent.

If I'm from out-of-town, I just want to save a buck. I don't really care about accumulating things in a place I'm only visiting.

I love Calibre too, and it can do everything this can do and lots more. Hamster looks nice though, where I really think that Calibre could benefit from some usability and look-and-feel improvements.
