It's likely due to the 360's unified RAM structure (512mb pooled for system and vram). The PS3 has the same total amount, but it's split so developers can't allocate it as they like. I think that's why there were some issues with Skyrim and other games on the PS3.

I would agree with it being more accessible, I do feel that Dark Souls 1 has the same level of lore as Demons.
