Actually, you are incorrect at least on 1 point. Opening new cards reduces the length of your average credit history. They take all of your credit tradelines and their ages and calculate the average length of credit history. The more new stuff you add, the shorter this becomes and it does affect your credit score.

I use MyFICO as well. Every 3 months I get a new report and real score.

I agree and that makes sense. It just seems like people get the false impression that the credit bureau knows that you charge and pay it off in full each month.

I don't think that is true. Every report I have seen shows either paid or unpaid. Even my student loans, which are in deferment show that they are paid on time each month.

I don't think that is an alternative solution to what they are suggesting. I have used both of those settings and it still shows read email in the inbox. The point of this mod is to make read email harder to get to, thus forcing you to not read an email until you are ready to reply or act on it.
