He leaked information that exposed the bad actions of a government and allowed the public to hold them to account, at great personal risk. Without his actions things would be being done in the name of US citizens, terrible things, without their consent or knowledge.

History will judge him a hero, it takes willful blindness to the sins of your country to think anything else.
