I'm pretty sure Joyce Carol Oates is the female Steven King.
I'm pretty sure Joyce Carol Oates is the female Steven King.
Considering the Teen Wolf background character vibes Archie gives off, I'm inclined to go with your conspiracy theory.
Seconded WM - it's beautiful to look at, sort of dreamy along with that camp, and some of the actors really know that's what they're doing. Looking at you, Amick. I think it's a place to see breakout stars before they, well, breakout. The actresses playing Josie, Val, Veronica and Betty in particular.
I didn't expect to feel like crying after reading a movie column, but that's life too.
This, like Eternal Sunshine, was beautiful.
The candelabra bit is a nice echo of The Innocents, in which two siblings live in a big old house and are slightly…wrong. At least, according to the governess charged with looking after them.
Any time anyone uses the phrase 'top-notch' I think of Ryan McPoyle using it to describe his sister's tits and I feel just a little bit sick.
Oh man, I just had hearteyes the whole time watching this episode.
I'm missing coverage of The Mick on the AV Club. I need a fix of the show's slightly sweet, slightly dark comedy and without the reviews to remind me, I tend to miss on seeking out the episodes.
Literally came here to wonder where the review was too!
And now I've made myself unnecessarily hopeful for an Edgar Wright film starring Charlie Day. Ah well.
You've reminded me of Every Frame a Painting's analysis of Wright and why his visual style is leagues ahead of what others are doing at the moment: https://www.youtube.com/wat…
Bahahah! I totally get that. It's just the damn fact they both have such great chemistry (maybe an alternative world version of the gang, where everyone is well adjusted, or so it seems at first - scraping the barrel there but I bet they could do it well).
Totally agree with you on Charlie and the Waitress. They're just so adorable together. I remember watching for the first time and thinking "I wonder if they're dating in real life?" and being SO happy they were married. That's pretty weird, but oh well.
So Mac actually being out was kind of a fan favourite choice, - can I ask what's on everyone's list for things they'd like to see happen? (this being Sunny, I'm guessing not everything is a warm and friendly thing, and that somebody will say 'for Dennis to have actually killed someone')
Architectonically is the grandest and best word, thank you for introducing it into my life.
It may not match the above for grandeur, but I'm putting in a vote for most atmospheric with St Magnus Cathedral in Orkney for the following:
Look, Dennis Reynolds is clearly the Young Pope in another universe.
I've been going through some stuff (tm) and thought, oh, I'll watch some of The O.A. That looks pretty. Yes well, it was pretty but it also tipped me over into a pit of sadness where I got to lounge about for a few hours before falling asleep. I then watched some Always Sunny episodes and that was me on the mend.
I'm reading E Nesbit's Ghost Stories - besides writing for children (Five Children and It, the Railway Children and so on) she wrote these MR Jamesian stories for adults. A lot of warped domesticity and atmospheric shenanigans across the English countryside. Not in the least spooky (just like MR James in my opinion)…
