That wimpy guardrail makes it a perfect filter for intelligently sized cars.

Jalopniks know a good thing when they see it, and too many must have tried and freaked them out:

Avoid IEDs. Attract RPGs.

@Boston: Agreed. The rear side window is a 2011 option, I think. I remember being in France ten years ago and seeing the Renault Kangoo and thinking (except for the Renault part) that it could be a perfect family-leisure vehicle for the US. Now we got our own!

New things are happening now, too. How to replace the Crown Vic:

I always wanted to get one of these, and change the exterior badging to a Passat W8.

Something wrong here, no failed states on the list. I nominate Monrovia, Liberia, where the roads are so terrible everyone has to drive SUVs, and UN armored vehicles are always blocking things up.

Congrats and best wishes for the Futura to you both!

As a Porsche driver, I thought for sure I'd be on the list. Not to be.

986 Boxster hood from on top: a tight skirt over nice hips and long legs....

I think the Glas is a serious candidate for a car actually imported to the US and then bought and built by a mainline company - BMW- and then forgotten. In SoCal in the late sixties they were marketed as a poor man's Porsche, but that was also the case with a Karman-Ghia!

I think that you could shop around and find a driveable SC for that price, and avoid two things: being way out of fashion and driving a flexi-flyer.

If thats the sound you want, pound the shit out of the exhaust pipe with a ballpeen hammer until its reduced to about half its original diameter.

Where is graverobber? I'll take this for $18K over the 928 any day!

@Sam Smith: Well, re reading my comment it seems kind of curt, too. So apologies for that. Thanks for a great story!

"pilots didn't so much land the plane as fly it really close to the ground (usually about two feet), stall it, and then fall out of the sky."

You are not going to get a presentable, driveable actual supercar any cheaper.

Kitman was the only reason I subscribed to Automobile, until I didn't.

Clean water cooled Porsches seem to depreciate to about 20% of the MSRP before they start up again. The 996 twin turbos were stickered at about $125K, right now you can pick one up for $35K, so I am getting close!

Its been done. 1949 Packard; no doubt there is one on the streets of Alameda right now.
