It really tries and succeeds in insulting the intelligence of the viewer. And the reveal is truly lazy. It's a 'gotcha!' that doesn't make sense from a storytelling standpoint.

As far as the thrill of the film "fizzles" when the truth is revealed, fizzles isn't the right word. Laughable and fucking ridiculous are far better choices.

"Why Bother?" seems like one of the most honest songs River Cuomo ever wrote. His performance on it is so sincere.

I was hoping this would be mentioned this week. I mean, Creepshow 2? That's some stretching. But Exorcist III is a masterwork of understatement… even if studio involvement robbed it of some of it's panache.
