Think of it this way- when you finally get a job as a voice actor next year and get $1,000 for one session of your time, that $1,000 is also paying for all the auditions you went on, the reel you had produced, the classes you took, and the casting director meet-and-greet you paid for and went to.

Easiest, cushiest gig in all of video games? Ha. The grass is always greener. After you audition for 20+ video games, for free, for an entire year, get two callbacks, then book ONE small role for which you get compensated around $900 (now $1800) for, then consider if this is an easy, cushy gig.

As a voice actor, I am going to tell you why residuals for actors matter more than residuals for people behind the scenes.

Maybe this will help the myriad of obscenely talented but not well known indie voice actors to get some real work for a change instead of the handful of same-old voices that we get in literally every game ever.

I’m pretty conflicted about this. On the one hand, I think these voice actors deserve better treatment. I mean, recently games have had excellent performances. On the other hand, if they strike it could cause a lot of problems for developers. Hopefully it doesn’t come to a strike. I’d very much like to continue seeing…
