I thought at least one of those dudes was pretty sexy - but admittedly I know he was not supposed to be. I'm just a weirdo, I guess.

Really good assessment. I just lately had an embarrassingly heated conversation where I argued to my friend that Single Ladies was Beyonce's breakout turnaround most significant career moment, whereas he thinks Crazy in Love was because it was her huge breakout solo hit. I'm of the same mind with you. Her…
Yeah, I always figured that "Upgrade You" song was kind of a two way street. They both assisted each other's careers when their relationship got more serious and started heading into marriage/baby territory. The combination of assets alone must have been incredible. Beyonce's public image really changed in 2008 around…
There's a central fallacy in dressing up guys sexy for laughs rather than just pure objectification. A better video would have had some oiled up muscle clad men lifting crap and getting wet. Now that would gain better parity.
At the time, Jay-Z was (and in a lot of ways still is) the biggest name in Rap. Usually considered the hip hop King of New York after Biggie's death, Jay-Z's name carries considerable cache. He's usually mentioned as one of the best rappers of all time, usually making many people's top 5 (Subjective to be sure, but…
I don't know if he sold it but Jay-Z owned a large stake of LiveNation as well. He always produces more now than before. On the music front, I think he is burned out. He'd rather be a mogul, finding talent and investing his money. Beyoncé definitely still wants to be out there, making music and touring.
Reba, Dolly, etc? These women were chart toppers and sang real songs that didn't just repeat the same "country" cliches. (quote Willie Nelson, three chords and a story)
Also they are beyond singer rich largely because of investments, at least attributed to JayZ. You don't make 500 million just singing, at least she would be the first.
Beyonce and Jay-Z aren't my kind of music/entertainment. Needless to say, I'm fascinated by this story for some reason. It's not schadenfreude because I don't want the marriage to fail. The speculation is just mesmerizing.
Street cred? At least, in the beginning of their relationship he did.
Agreed. Jay Z brought Beyonce street cred, and she helped bring Jay into the mainstream. It's difficult for most entertainers to have respect from both audiences, and they managed to get the balance perfect. I don't think either of them could have done it without the other.
When I see an article about Beyonce I have to stop by and let the world know that not all black people are Beyonce fans. I'm a card carrying black woman and I can't stand her.
Single Ladies, Irreplaceable, Best Thing I Never Had. Beyonce is incredibly bankable as the independent, often pissed off, single woman. Can you imagine the kind of bank she would get if she and Jay divorced and she released a girl-power breakup album? That's what makes me not believe the "they're more powerful…
When capitalism wants us to know they're divorcing, we will.
why would anyone need two nannies for one baby...
I wish this video had been more about girls reacting to the ridiculousness of the cliches...like tugging at their tops and throwing on a sweatshirt, or getting in their own truck. Something that would've shown the difference between what bro-country songs depict women like and what they actually like.
I always thought I hated country music, but this? This I like a lot!
If we're deconstructing modern country cliches, it would be awesome if they didn't both have fried bleach-blonde hair that's been beaten into submission with a curling iron and that terrible, same-y makeup (orange foundation, Naked palette, black liner on the waterline, two metric tons of mascara) that looks like…
I get the point they're making here, but it cracks me up that they still have girls in short-shorts and bikini tops in their video. As if we wouldn't understand the reference if it was just the guys.
I wish they used hot guys and shorter shorts. :/
