The smart trainers can get pretty expensive so it depends on how deep you want your setup to be. A “dumb” trainer works fine for most and you can find a used one for pretty cheap on Craigslist.

If available in your area, I think wireless internet service providers (WISP) can be a great alternative to companies like this.
