More that, there's a spectrum and on one end there's no way anyone other than Jackie Chan turns into Jackie Chan and on the other it's almost unbelievable that Robin Williams could turn into anything, but that he could certainly opens up transformation for anyone.

In general I agree, though I do think Rothfuss actually does show a fair amount of negative aspects to Kvothe. But while I don't think the aspects themselves are subtle I think they do work in a subtle way within the assumptions of the genre. In particular I think the Mary/Marty Sue complaints reveal as much about

It was the reverse in my family. The 'rents did everything for the youngest and suddenly 'remembered' doing all of those things for the olders.

I'm very suspicious that argument is exaggerated, but, in particular, I just think it's irrelevant. We're not particularly at a point where we are designing marriage legislation strictly around social benefit.
