The first time I ever saw the Admiral Akbar 'It's a trap' meme was in a post immediately after someone recommended Grave of the Fireflies (context and caveat free) on a long ago 'What should I watch this weekend?' thread.

Eh, I think it fits nicely into the ambiguity that Orwellian dystopianism misses - sometimes you get Big Brother by selling Big Brother not by forcing it.
I think it's a hard lesson that wears well, Watership Down may be treading the same water as most dystopian lit by posing the question "Who Couldn't be a Nazi?" but doing it with rabbits was super ballsy.
The faces on one side of the aisle (presumably Republicans) reflect delight; the faces on the other side of the aisle melt in the face of existential wrath/horror.
We'd have to get a lot farther into the brush to really work that out, but I think a basic problem with that scenario is that it presumes the current demographic/political coalitions are static and I'm pretty skeptical that's the case.
The man had range and liked to work.
Good lord that is so utterly ridiculous:
"Hey, we know it's only against your self-interest to do this thing WE think is the right thing so we'll wait for you to do that right thing while we continue to sit fat and happy."
I have to tell you, I experienced instant ferocious rage at that lapse (whether of taste or cognition is not for me to say).
Or that one guy who shows everyone Ikiru and leaves before the end.
Seriously, never let an author's interpretation of a work render it gross, that's the author's problem not your's or the work's.

I don't know that that's true. There's a ton of Dems in Texas, I don't know if there are enough to counter the Rep communities in CA, but Houston is one of the largest Dem strongholds in the US and then there's the Valley, San Antonio, and portions of DFW. Voter turnout would sky rocket.
I don't know that that's the implication most often at work in, y'know, actual human conversation. It's not all interwebs all the way down.
Has Aisha Tyler interviewed her for Girl on Guy?
To the Netflix queue, away!
Eh, if you're sick and you're taking antibiotics because what you have is a bacterial infection that's awesome. If you are sick and you're taking antibiotics because 'I'm sick, doc' then listen to Carla.
Maine and Nebraska. Viriginia might be getting a similar system. People keep trying to do it Pennsylvania too, but so far very few dice.
eh, changes at the state level would fix that. If California and Texas alone went proportional both parties would become nigh unrecognizable overnight.
A camera pointed only towards the audience records what appears to be a viewing of the opening of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic on one side of the aisle and what appears to be an actual occurrence of the phenomena shown in the last scene of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Last Ark on the other.
