A - Diminish the heavy
B - Give it a layered, media installation style effect - potentially enhancing the heavy
C - Fill all our cups with bewildered rage

Ya wanna hear something horrible?

That's the one, though I remember the ship aspects very little. Mostly what I remember was that the painting worked into the plot in a very non-Holmesian way (Ohhh, the McGuffin is actually MORE than an excuse for breaking rules) and some interesting stuff on how being occupied after a war makes you special crazy.

There's one I read - I can't remember the name - that was about South American revolutionaries and their connection to the US South. I read it and I remember having this moment where I was like, "Oh, this is what you use that word 'nuanced' for!"

I think the Incredibles is deservedly highly rated as an action cartoon/heroic action adventure - which, in general, is a very high piece of praise.

He does have a very good reputation with people like Heritage (though that might be changing) and I think there is a story to be written about what his candidacy means for their bids for influence within the larger GOP ecology.

I would caution that it's very easy to oversell how much mythical heroes actually work into that dynamic.

I think the only thing I would add to this analysis is that Bob has a prior problem that Buddy shares.

I think it's a REAL stretch to call Bob an author insertion character.

Sure! And, I imagine, you have a decent sense of what forums in your life might be more appropriate for you to have discussions about local politics.

Sigh, the one meaning you know may not (on any level) be the meaning intended.

Well, I'm not picking up what you are putting down at all with the anger undercurrent and childhood alienation, but I can say something about the appropriation point. To whit, not all appropriation is cultural (and it's a wee bit off to say these products are designed for and by white, middle-class Americans - they

I'll pick up your something, but… I'm a little skeptical? I mean, let's say that among that fewer more talk was made about Star Wars than the election. Now I have my doubts about that and the significance of that talk, but for the sake of argument, sure.

But it's also not like consumption of pop culture is automatically lowbrow.

I am… I suppose I respect his opinion on this. He's had an interesting role this and trenchant observations before.
