The WHO recommends breastfeeding “up two years or beyond,” which makes the one year mark seem bizarrely early to stop breastfeeding.

I tend to think that “my body, my choice” goes for breastfeeding, too. If somebody can’t breastfeed or decides for any reason that they don’t want to, then that’s why we have formula. For

I think the biggest thing that could come out of #metoo, if there is the will to make it happen, is to empower men to change male culture and work to stop the majority of sexual abuse. Rape and assault are about exerting power over another person, so what happens if male culture takes away the need to exert power in

I’m not above pursuing opportunities outside of the academy, even though I think my true talent is teaching.

I find it helpful to sit down and write every day, no matter what. Having a schedule helps. And I don’t wait for inspiration to strike, I just sit and write even if I’m not feeling it. That’s the worst, of course, but it’s way easier to revise and improve text you hate than to write it in the first place. Plus it gets

Just wanting to be finished is a good place to be! The best place, really. It’s what I always told my dissertation writing students, but now that I’m in the thick of it I’m like OMG yes I just want to be done!

You can also tell if somebody is from Vallejo (and when) by the nicknames they use for it. In the 80s-90s it was Valley of the Hos. And it became V-Town sometime in the late 90s early 00s. I hear people call it The Village now, probably in relationship to The City, like some people are trying to call Oakland “The

Same. And he sees equity in housework and childcare as natural, and has a real problem with men who don’t. We’re working on the mental/emotional load thing together, too. It’s good. Hard, but good.

I attribute it to him having a dad who was the same. And his dad was also like that, because he and his wife were American

Also, watch some Queer Eye, it’s good for the soul. And there’s a lot of addressing of toxic masculinity in positive ways along the way.

Agreed.

Signed, a woman.

My husband and my father-in-law and my dad, all healthy men. When this whole #metoo thing started, my husband and I had a long talk about it, and he started listing the things he hadn’t really thought about before that might make women uncomfortable. It was a short list, but he was like, I need to notice this and stop

I am not crafting tonight, but I recently made a robot costume for my toddler out of one of those Amazon Prime Now cold bags. Two slits for arms in the sides and a little rectangle to see out of. It was a hit! I am, alas, too lazy atm to take pics.

Well, I occasionally post here about my dissertation progress. It’s due in December, and I am so. freaking. close. to. being. done. Just finished another chapter this past week, and am now barreling into the second-to-last one, hoping to get a draft churned out this next week, since this chapter is theoretically a lot

In San Francisco there’s a street named “Gough” and you can tell whether someone is local or not by how they pronounce it, and how they react if someone mispronounces it. Heh.

Fair enough!

(Or, fair enoucchhhhh!)

I usually hear people in the UK say “van goff” tbh. But I’ve occasionally also heard “van goch” where the gh is like the southern(??) german ch, pronounced rather hard in the back of the throat, and not at all like the dutch gh. I say southern german only because I learned a very northern pronunciation of german

Same in the UK, “van goff” basically.

Wellllll in Dutch it’s more like “vin hoogh” where the initial ‘g’ is very soft and very close to an English ‘h’, and the ‘gh’ is a very soft rustling sound in the back of the throat. His pronunciation is *theoretically* closer than ‘van go’ but he really murders it to the point where “van go” may actually be closer

Any guesses on how many people making those comments are on government assistance?

I have no trouble with assistance programs - I think they need to be expanded. My family has used them, my friends have used them, they are great when you really have a need for them, and unfortunately they aren’t enough for a lot of

Oh, I think if he loses, he’ll leave, but he’ll claim the whole thing was rigged, will blame it on Russian interference (which will suddenly be a thing in his world) and then parlay that into a new media network where he’ll peddle conspiracy theories and cash in on people’s fears, regardless of whatever devastating

Does anybody not do that?
