Thanks for this review, Jason. Too bad to hear this isn’t a new classic.
I can’t choose, so I’ll give you an unranked top 3.
Thanks, Heather, for your thoughtfulness and openness in the video and here in the comments.
Major congratulations to Hello Games. People may see this as “finally delivering on the promise”, this type of multiplayer in a procedurally generated world is in fact a major technological achievement, especially for an indie.
Really hoping to read the longform history of the NMS project in Bloodier, Sweatier and…
The day will soon come that Fortnite will devour internet culture in its entirety, after which it will start hungrily eying the offline world. End times are near!
That seems like I would dig it and wasn’t on my radar either. Thanks!
Played Stardew Valley to bits already and I have Shovel Knight on the Vita.
Have a Vita, loved it for the some reason. I just got a Switch for that reason as well, but was frankly a bit underwhelmed by the indie titles on there as of yet. Many of them looked a bit... samey. This is offset by my backlog of Nintendo games, but still...
You are a busy man, I know. But if you could give the titles…
What an excellent piece! This is why I come to Kotaku: pieces that bring deep perspectives and attention to detail but offer this in a clear and evocative way.
Ha, what can. I say! I am a doctor but I can also randomly add ties to ties! Thank you though, my non-native brain has been suffering from this affliction for as long as I can remember, so maybe this shock comment will have finally cured it.
Welcome Cameron! Really looking forward to chill myself while reading about your chill pieces. Particularly looking forward to any 90ties gaming flashbacks!
Lovely to hear some gaming reflections from a newish dad! Congrats!
I played that segment of the podcast in reverse and you can clearly hear Gabe Newell, in the voices of Jason and Kirk, announcing Half-Life 3!
Yeah, it seems to me (especially after reading Jason’s chapter on the development of Destiny) that Bungie, in their move to become independent, went from creatively to corporately focused.
Haha, good for him and you. Shows me for being a cynic! :-S
I love Destiny and have ever since I saw it at the PS4 E3 reveal, but I love it despite the developer’s relation to their community and outward face in general. Everytime they seem to get it right or make amends, they will end up taking two steps back soon enough.
And me! I would love to love the games but can’t stand its protagonist!
It’s not about people like me willing to spend more, it is the earning model that is being rolled out to achieve that. Take Activision’s patent mentioned above for example. I’d feel ripped off if I end up buying something that sets up smoke and mirrors to make me feel really good about the purchase early on, only to…
