Why make a Mai figure if you’re gonna give her such a plain expression? That is absolutely the wrong look for her.

For Mia, at least, some of her scenes shutting him down is not actually her. The others I would guess is because of all her own unresolved issues. And what she knows about Ethan and Rose.

The facial animations and character movement in cutscenes get better over time too. Though mainly for NPCs and not your own character.
