Even in the 90s, I saw no appeal in PH. Anyone I knew who went there (non-LA locations) never brought up the food, and no one really saw celebrities. So what was the appeal?

I can speak to this from both an Asian and Southeast Asian perspective. You get judged on shades of darkness, not just being “dark”. With such subtlety that as an American born Asian, I don’t get it.
