And the reason why they can scrap ideas, pursue “perfection”, and have games take as long as they need, is that they aren’t a publicly traded company. Activision and EA are trying to appease shareholders quarter after quarter, ever fiscal year. By comparison, I hope Valve never goes public.

I’m sure they have plenty of stuff going on that no one will ever see. Doesn’t mean they aren’t developing things. But we know Valve usually has a very high bar of quality, so the trash most other devs would be content with publishing never sees the light of day.
