You're absolutely right - I can't even remember how I heard about Live Mesh/Live Sync (which just merged into Mesh) a few years ago, but I can't say that I've ever seen it advertised. Microsoft has a ton of great services but they're pretty disjointed, and Microsoft's branding strategy is a disaster.

For example, the folder in which I have my class notes syncs, essentially in real time, across my desktop, laptop, and my SkyDrive.
