Same here, I wanted car that I can enjoy driving for long distances. Golf R for me. I loved looks of Ford, but I felt like vomiting once I sat inside. I love Golf simplicity and ergonomics.

Have you ever actually sat in a modern VW interior? It was the selling point for me over buying a 2015 STI when I got my 2015 GTI. I travel a lot in my car (123k km on my current 2015 GTI that I’ve owned from new) so the interior needs to be good.
