You’re missing the part where they cant retire, because they either lost all of their retirement in the market, or they just never had it in the first place.
So they’ll work until they die. There is no “getting out so young people can advance”.
I think the assumption was that the front wheels are spinning, and therefore the car would assume it was moving down the road.
However the car probably has rear wheel speed sensors, and the stability management system sees the diff between the rear and the front and cuts cruise.... although that second part is a guess.
A model T with a modern supercharged v8 would be cool.... esp if they kept the wooden rims and narrow tires.
